Of the Media and the New 90210 TV Show
Apparently, there are a lot of parents who are opposed to the 90210 TV show. This may come as a big surprise to a generation whose values are so far from the traditional notions of sexuality and chastity that were enforced in the 1950’s. Media nowadays is so soaked in sex and violence that you wouldn’t think of. The new 90210 tv show is just one of the sex filled shows in TV. Before that, there was Degrassi and load of other shows you can’t possibly count. The thing about Beverly 90210 is that it is coupled with other values that these parents say is dangerously depraved.
You know how easy it is to dismiss these concerned parents as prunes. And it true. But still, I can’t help but think about this. Like everyone else of my age, I have been accustomed to casual sex. My morals are, shall we say, quite loose. I have an eating disorder (just like to get as thin as the girls in the 90210 TV show and numerous other celebrities). And I am only now starting to accept the facts, not that I wasn’t aware of them before, I was just not that aware that it was all me who is doing this to myself. What led me to this? Of course I can’t blame culture and television all the time, but still, how much does it really affect us when we were so young and what we knew of beauty and life were all filtered through the television and our friends who watched television?
This polemic argument may never end. But one thing is for sure. The skinny girls of the new 90210 tv show needs to eat more cake to fill up their bony asses.
